Feng Huijun is a villager from Kulyushu Village in Shunyi District, Beijing. These past few days, she’s been busy decorating her new home—and she’s in an especially cheerful mood, finally free from the annoyance of noise.
“At first, I thought it was pretty cool to see planes up close since the airport was nearby—but after a while, with more and more aircraft and increasingly larger models, it became unbearable, especially during the Golden Week when they were flying so densely.”
Feng Huijun’s previous home was just a wall away from the airport—what started as curiosity soon turned into unbearable annoyance. Now, thanks to the joint efforts of the city, district, and town governments, Feng Huijun has moved into a new home located over a kilometer away. Not only have her living conditions significantly improved, but more importantly, she no longer has to endure the constant assault of airplane noise.
Like Feng Huijun, more than 3,700 villagers from Guliu Tree Village and Huimin Village—both located near the Capital Airport—have already moved away from their noise-polluted hometowns and settled into new residential communities one after another.
Throughout the relocation process, to make it easier for residents, the relevant authorities implemented a policy allowing families to move directly into their new buildings simply by handing over the keys to their old homes. Meanwhile, the construction of comprehensive and thoughtfully designed amenities in the new residential area has also been carried out with great care and attention to detail.
The land freed up by residents' relocation hasn’t been left to waste, either. Areas near the airport that suffer from significant noise pollution will be transformed into green spaces, while slightly farther regions with relatively lower noise levels will leverage their strategic location to develop airport-related logistics industries—after implementing soundproofing measures. Overall, this relocation effort not only prioritizes people’s livelihoods but also ensures the most efficient use of land resources possible.
